Paranoid Schizophrenia Causes

The cause of schizophrenia is not the same for everybody, there are plenty of reason why people begin to develop paranoid schizophrenia symptoms and they are not always as straight forward as you might think. Here we have compiled a list of the most common causes of schizophrenia, each has their own description.

Genetics

A lot of people imagine that the chance of developing paranoid schizophrenia is massively dependent on your genetics, when the truth is that it certainly increases your chances but not by as much as you’d think.

For instance, if none of your blood relatives have paranoid schizophrenia then you have a 1% chance of developing the mental illness genetically, even if one of your parents has paranoid schizophrenia, you still only have a 6% chance of developing the mental disorder genetically.

Whilst genetics is definitely a prevalent cause of paranoid schizophrenia, it is not massively decisive and it does not guarantee you will develop the mental illness, read ‘Is Schizophrenia Hereditary‘ for more information about developing the disorder genetically.

Conditions In The Womb

The chances of developing paranoid schizophrenia can be greatly altered before you are even born, for instance if you are exposed to a virus in the womb as a foetus, then the chances of developing the mental illness are massively increased. Similarly, children who suffered from poor nutrition whilst in the womb will also have a higher chance of developing the mental disorder.

Mental Trauma In Early Life

There is correlatory evidence that suggests that massively mentally traumatic events in the early part of someone’s life can increase their chances of developing paranoid schizophrenia, however it is a chicken and egg situation.

Since before developing actual symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia, people often experience anger, stress and relationship problems which can be attributed to causing paranoid schizophrenia, when in fact it could’ve been early symptoms of the mental illness, and not a root cause.
